A&P grocery store rebranding as Metro
Friday August 22 2008

The parent company of A&P grocery stores is planning on a name change. Starting next summer, the Orangeville store and others across the province will be known as Metro.
“The decision to rebrand under the Metro name is part of a long-term strategy to capitalize on operational and marketing efficiencies by uniting the individual strengths of our existing banners in Ontario and sharing best practices with our Quebec and Ontario stores,” Eric La Flèche, president and chief executive officer of Metro Inc. said in a press release.
Stores operating under the current Dominion, A&P, Loeb, The Barn and Ultra banners will be affected — 158 in all. Accompanying the rebranding effort will be $200 million to upgrade store facilities.
A new unified corporate and retail logo will also be unveiled as the effort moves forward. This is intended to update the company’s public image.
