Dear Editor,
Congratulations to the players, coaches and the management of the Northmen for winning the Minto Cup.
It was Orangeville’s first national lacrosse championship title in 12 years and they won it in convincing fashion. The Northmen completed the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record and they outscored their opponents 44 to 16. Newspapers in Calgary and Victoria described the Northmen as being dominant.
The Northmen beat the Victoria Shamrocks 9-4 in the final at the Max Bell Arena in Calgary in front of a hostile crowd. Seven different players scored in the championship game.
Stephen Keogh was named as the tournament’s MVP and Adam Jones tied for the tournament’s scoring title with 17 points.
The Northmen’s Nick Rose, considered by many to be the top junior lacrosse goalie in Canada, played an outstanding tourney but the strength of the Northmen is that they played as a team and not as a group of individuals.
Other teams can argue that they have more talent but they cannot dispute which is the best team in the nation.
