The Greater Dufferin Area Chamber of Commerce (GDACC) and Headwaters Arts Festival are looking for talented children, teens and young adults to be Headwaters first Shining Stars.
The search for the first Headwaters Shining Stars will begin with auditions on Sept. 21 at Broadway Music. The contest is aimed at children 8-12 years of age, teens 13-18 years of age and young adults 19-24 years of age. From the audition process, five children, 10 teens and 10 young adults will be invited to the finales, which will take place Oct. 3-5 as part of the Home and Lifestyle show presented by the GDACC.
This date also coincides with the arts festival, which runs at different venues throughout Headwaters Sept. 26-Oct. 13.
Interested participants are asked to pre-register for auditions before the audition dates, as spaces are limited. Participants must choose their own song, which can be no longer than two minutes in length and be able to sing accapella to a panel of judges. Finalists will be contacted the week of Sept. 23.
Once chosen, the finalists will perform a song of their choice on stage in front of a live audience. The contest begins Friday, Oct. 3 with the children’s contest and the winner will be crowned that evening at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 4, the teens will take to the stage at 12:30 p.m with the winner being crowned at 3:30 p.m. And finally, the young adults will round out the weekend on Sunday, Oct. 5 with the winner being announced that afternoon.
Winners in each category will not only take the coveted prize as a Headwaters Shining Star, but will receive vocal lessons from Broadway Music, a recording session from Pop Rocks, a photo session from Portrait Treasures, along with cash prizes in the children category from The Perfectly Pampered Princess and Wayne Baguley.
Contest details and audition forms are available at The Perfectly Pampered Prince and Princess or Broadway Music or by calling 519-940-4301 or 519-940-4810.
