The Mainlanders release their first CD at 8 p.m. in the Orangeville Town Hall Opera House on Saturday (Sept. 6). The Mainlanders are comprised of Orangeville residents Jeff Campbell and Ryan Reid and Murray Abraham from Fergus. The Mainlanders have been around since 1996 and are an energetic folk band with a decidedly East Coast flavour whose original music draws on the rich tapestry of Canadian history, both past and present. The CD release party also features special guests Time Catchers, aka Wayne King, Betty Ann Lusk and Tom Althouse. The Time Catchers create a new and unique sound that appeals to everyone who loves folk, country and bluegrass. General admission tickets are $18 if purchased through the Theatre Orangeville box office or $15 in advance by calling 519-938-9683.

Orangeville Music Theatre presents the musical-comedy sensation Nunsense at Century Church Theatre in Hillsburgh on Sept. 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27 at 8 p.m. and on 14 and 21 at 2 p.m. The Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials. The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the Grade 8 production of “Grease.” Here we meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head. Featuring star turns, tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz and comic surprises, this show has become an international phenomenon. For tickets ($18), please call 519-855-4586 or go to www.centurychurchtheatre.com.
