A 76-year-old Orangeville man with a history of sex-related offences is back behind bars. Bruce Douglas Morrison was arrested last week and charged with breach of probation.
“We received information that he ... contravened an order he was on with respect to not being able to communicate with any person under the age of 16 without written permission from the courts,” explains Const. Scott Davis, media relations officer.
The man is accused of conversing with two girls under the age of 16 on July 18. He was taken into custody at about 8 p.m. July 23, at his Orangeville residence.
At press time, Morrison remains in custody; a bail hearing hasn’t been held.
Morrison has five sex-related convictions on his criminal record. Most recently, he pleaded guilty in January to sexually assaulting an 17-year-old Orangeville girl last August.
A Superior Court judge sentenced him to serve 17 months in jail — double credit for six months time served and five additional months — as well as three years probation.
Following his plea, Assistant Crown Attorney Eric Taylor warned Morrison a long-term offender application would be filed if he didn’t change his behaviour.
Long-term offender status, when approved by a judge during sentencing, allows for up to 10 years of court-ordered supervision and probation-like terms.
