Cornelius named athlete of the week

Orangeville’s Dan Cornelius, a goalie for the D’Youville College men’s varsity soccer team, received the Niagara Scenic Tours/Outstanding Goalkeeper Award at the Aug. 30 to 31 Spartan Cup Classic.
Cornelius made 28 saves in the Spartan’s two games, many of them spectacular. Cornelius turned back 16 shots in the game against Franciscan, and stopped 12 shots against Pitt-Bradford.
The new Spartan’s keeper, along with an improved D’Youville defensive corps, kept opponents scoreless for one-half of play in each contest; the first time D’Youville has accomplished this feat since the 2000 season.
